David Bowie - The Calm Before the Storm is a must see for Bowie fans. I knew I liked a few of his songs, but watching this, realized I liked more than I thought. The film follows his early work pre-Ziggy Stardust and how he transformed himself over and over again musically, personally and professionally.

He went from a more folk-y musician to the androgynous persona we remember him as. He influenced generations of people and the documentary includes one of Kurt Cobain's last performances, Nirvana's MTV Unplugged where they covered Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" (which is still one of the most haunting cover songs of all time). It features a good mix of music, old footage, interviews and people talking about how his music influenced them and shaped their lives.

This is a great musical documentary that will easily fit into your music collections. It`s a must watch for Bowie fans and it might show some people who don`t think they are fans, that they are. Some...

Bowie's beginings
This is a documentary covering the early work of David Bowie that leads to his breakout in the US after the Ziggy Stardust record. I would have liked to see more about Mick Ronson, but overall it gives a good idea of Bowie's step by step journey into music creation and sucess.The main records covered are Space Oditty(Man of words, Man of Music),Man Who Sold the World, and Hunky Dory. But previous records, as well as the Ziggy Lp are also discussed. A good buy for a Bowie fan or a rock historian in gereral.
